4.0. Increasing the number of bee colonies

The main objective of the measure is to increase the number of bee colonies and honey production capacity in Estonia. The two most widespread bee races in Europe and Nordic countries are carnica and ligustica and one crossbred race (buckfast); all these are extant in Estonia too. The aim of breeding improvement is to enhance the productivity of bees, control disease resistance, winter resistance and swarming behavior, conduct comparative evaluation of different breeds and lines, select the best breeds and multiply primarily in pure bred apiaries, and disseminate knowledge of relevant methods and principles among beekeepers. Consultations are provided by chairperson of the measure Mr Aimar Lauge, Member of the Board of Saaremaa Honey Producers Society (; +372 56 65 65 33).
